Akiko grumbled and tossed the fluffy pink and white ball of yarn across the room. She'd been trying for hours to knit a scarf, but no matter how hard she tried, the yarn kept knotting and the rows were all crooked. She just couldn't do it. Perhaps if she had more time, she might be able to figure it out, but it was no use. Akiko suddenly regretted the many times over the years when she declined her mother's offer to teach her the skill. It seemed pointless then and Akiko had been so busy studying…

She turned her gaze to the window, watching the snow fall and smiled suddenly thinking about Kiyoshi and how he'd looked the other day with his hair dusted white and his cheeks red with the cold. Every time he smiled, it made her feel so warm inside. She hadn't been bothered by the cold for even a moment. They'd had such a wonderful day! It was one that she would never forget, and now he was coming to her family's Christmas party. She wanted it to be perfect, and it would be if she could get this scarf right.

Crossing the room, she rescued the ball of yarn from the corner and carefully began to untangle her latest knot, determined to keep trying. Maybe it wouldn't be the best scarf, but she would finish it and wrap it and put it under the tree.
I think I'm a little late. Was out most of the evening and thought I could get this done and submitted on time. Bleh. I've never been good at short pieces...

Aww, this is adorable!
Don't worry. I'm sure Kiyoshi will be very happy with his scarf, no matter what it looks like. <3
